According to the EPA, dog waste is considered a non-point source pollution. Here are just some of the nasty critters that can be crawling around in your backyard.
Contrary to popular belief, dog poop does not make for a good lawn fertilizer. In fact, it is actually toxic to your lawn, causing burn marks and discoloring.
Beyond your grass, it has been proven that one gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria, which will cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans. AS stated in the picture above, the EPA estimates that two or three days’ worth from a population of 100 dogs would contain enough bacteria to temporarily close down a bay, and all water areas within 20 miles of it, to swimming and shell fishing.
Dog feces are contaminated with the following diseases:

- Hookworms
- Roundworms
- Tapeworms
- Parvo
- Corona
- Giardiasis
- Salmonellosis
- Cryptosporidiosis
- Campylobacteriosis
